DESCRIPTION

While the crisis of COVID-19 is over, the threat is not. SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate in all countries, it is evolving, infecting/re-infecting individuals and killing. While increasing population immunity, earlier diagnosis and better clinical care has been reducing the impact of COVID-19 overall, not all people around the world have access to life saving treatments and vaccines. Too many require hospital, develop Post COVID-19 condition and are dying. Our work is not finished. In mitigating the impact of COVID-19, the world has made important gains in public health and preparedness, prevention, readiness and response efforts that are important for current and future infectious threats. This work has allowed societies to adapt, innovate, and cooperate in ways previously unimaginable. As we look to the future, it is important to reflect on these gains and how we can sustain them to prevent future outbreaks of pathogens with epidemic and pandemic potential
