Resistant Hypertension: Are the Challenges Real or Factual?
Raised blood pressure, major global risk factor for stroke, cardiovascular disease and death is diagnosed in an estimated 1.4 billion people all over the world. Resistant hypertension is reported in about 10% of hypertensives in the United States which is defined as elevated blood pressure despite the use of at least three antihypertensive medications including diuretics. The goal of treatment is systolic blood pressure of 130 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of 80 mmHg or less. However, attainment of such goal is not easy for several different factors and the agreement on which measurement sitting is not clear.
